K&L Gates Welcomes Leading Dispute Resolution Partners to Singapore, Hong Kong Offices

January 12, 2010

Singapore and Hong Kong— Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added Michael J. Pollen and Christopher Tung as dispute resolution partners in the firm’s Singapore and Hong Kong offices, respectively. Pollen, qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong (1982) and England and Wales (1979), joins K&L Gates from DLA Piper in Singapore, while Tung, who has been based in Hong Kong since 1992, arrives at the firm after 13 years at Mallesons Stephen Jaques.

With a leading profile in international arbitration circles in Singapore, Asia, and beyond, Pollen has advised and arbitrated on marine law and construction issues for more than 35 years with a particular focus in the areas of shipbuilding, offshore oil and gas, ship repair and conversion, and ship sale and purchase. He represents clients globally across the maritime industry, including shipyards, ship owners and operators, energy companies, and constructors.

“We are delighted to have Mike on board,” said David Tang, K&L Gates Managing Partner, Asia. “With his unsurpassed experience in the disputes arena and in Asia, Mike’s arrival adds further depth and breadth to K&L Gates’ growing disputes practice in Singapore and Asia.”

“These are challenging times for clients in the industry sectors in which I practice, but there are also many opportunities,” expressed Pollen. “I am excited to have the chance to work with colleagues throughout K&L Gates’ global platform who have the skills and experience needed to help our clients take their business forward.”

An experienced projects and dispute resolution practitioner, Tung handles the non-contentious and contentious aspects of building, infrastructure, clean energy, and carbon finance projects throughout Asia. He is one of only a few globally recognized sustainability, environmental, and climate change lawyers based in Asia.

“Chris brings a new dimension to our expanding practice in Greater China,” said Clifford Ng, Administrative Partner of K&L Gates’ Asia offices. “His experience helping clients navigate through complex disputes and his leadership in the climate arena will be a great resource for K&L Gates clients operating in Asia and beyond.”

Tung stated: “I am excited about the tremendous opportunities I have to contribute to the expansion of the Asia and international projects and dispute resolution practices of K&L Gates. I am also delighted about the strong drive and commitment of our team to clean energy, carbon finance, and environmental matters, which we will be looking to integrate and synergize actively across practice areas.”
